The City of Bonita Springs reminds residents about permits and shares tips for sand clean up

Bonita Springs, FL – The City of Bonita Springs encourages residents to get permits. Please do not push sand from private property to the Right of Way. The sand does not count as landscape debris and will not be picked up by Solid Waste. The DOT crews have already been cleaning up sidewalks, bicycle paths and ROWs. Please be aware that sand on private property is the private property owner’s responsibility.
If you live along the beach and have overwashed sand in your backyard that you want to remove, there is a process. You can put it back on the beach only after you received approval from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. FDEP has a link with all the information about how private property owners can receive proper permission before placing overwashed sand from Helene back on the beach. Please visit:

The City of Bonita Springs wants to inform residents and property owners that any restoration efforts to repair storm damage must be permitted through the City’s Building Department.
Residents recovering from storm-related damage need to be aware that permits are required. This is especially important for those living in flood zones, including areas like Little Hickory Island, the Imperial River, and local creeks, as well as other parts of the City that often flood during storms.
