The City of Bonita Springs Government Channel, is a valuable tool for providing the residents with information about governmental issues.
As such, the City's goal shall be to focus programming on matters pertaining to civics, public health and safety, government information public education local history and topics deemed by the City to be of benefit or interest to our residents.
This channel can be seen on the following cable distribution systems:
- Comcast, channel 98.
- Hotwire, channel 398.
- Summit broadband, channel 96.
The history of Bonita Springs Television:
In order to utilize public rights of way for the installation of cable wiring, cable television operators must apply for and obtain a franchise from a city and/or county governing authority.
Pursuant to section 611 of the Cable Communications Policy Act of 1984, communities may require a cable operator to set aside at least one channel for public, education or government ("PEG") use as part of their negotiated franchise agreement.
A cable TV channel was given to the City of Bonita Springs from Comcast as part of the franchise negotiation process. BTV limits use of channel capacity for educational and governmental ("EG").
It is the City Council's responsibility to develop, implement and enforce rules for EG Access Channel use.
What Bonita Springs Television (BTV) is:
BTV stands for Bonita Springs Television Cable Access Channel. BTV is a cable TV channel that provides non-commercial government, and educational programming, to Cable subscribers in Bonita Springs, as part of their basic cable service.
Bonita Springs Television Hours of Operation:
BTV provides programming twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week, with live, recorded media, alpha-numeric bulletin board, and satellite programming when available. Hours of operation are enhanced through the use of automated playback equipment
Bonita Springs Television management:
The channel is operated by the City of Bonita Springs pursuant to its franchise. Television Ordinance. The Bonita Springs City Council has oversight of program content, budget allocation and channel guidelines.
Facilities and staff are shared with the Communications Department. Production, scheduling and content is provided through an appointed independent production consultant.
